Deepak Gopani bags bronze

Panaji: Goa’s Deepak Gopani won a bronze medal in the men’s 55+ singles category at the 32nd National Masters Table Tennis Championships held in Pune.

Leading a contingent of 25 Goan players, Deepak topped his group after defeating Suchit Kumar Chaturvedi (IA&AD) and Telangana’s Srinivas Matur Rao 3-2. His campaign ended in the semifinals following a 1-3 loss to Maharashtra’s Ravindra Joshi. He defeated Chandigarh’s Sanjay Laheja 3-0 in the Round of 32 before overcoming Gujarat’s Shagun Sutaria 3-2 in the Round of 16.

Deepak then beat Maharashtra’s Atmaram Gangarde 3-1 in the quarterfinals to assure himself of a medal. Deepak also registered a 3-1 victory over Delhi’s Anil Jajoo in the team event during the championships.
