Dempo SC’s legend Mahesh Lotlikar, a former India international and Santosh Trophy winner, passed away, with his contribution to the club and Goan football spanning nearly
two decades.

Lotlikar represented Dempo from 1979 to 1996, anchoring the club’s backline for several seasons. A former international from Chinchinim, grew steadily into the role and remained an authoritative presence in defence throughout the latter part of his career.

He also contributed in attack, scoring key goals, in the match-winner against Mormugao Port Trust in the Bandodkar quarter-finals and a decisive strike in Dempo’s 2–1 win over Indian Telephone Industries in the 1992
Scissors Cup final.

Following his playing career, Lotlikar continued to serve the game as coach of Dempo’s youth setup, contributing to player development at the grassroots level. The club paid tribute, noting that Lotlikar’s dedication and performances left a lasting impact on the club and Goan football.

GFA President Caitano Fernandes said Lotlikar “represented Goan and Indian football with distinction. His professionalism and commitment will always be remembered.”

Sporting Clube de Goa, another club where he coached, also mourned his demise, stating that as former Head of Youth Development, Lotlikar “was at the heart of an era when Sporting set the standard in Goa, with a strong youth system, consistent state titles, and a clear footballing identity. His work shaped a generation and laid foundations that defined
the club.”
