Golden Eagles struck first through Mevan’s header before Saish equalised from the spot

Ella: Dempo SC and Sesa FA shared the spoils after playing out a 1-1 draw in the Goa Professional League at the Ella on Sunday.

Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed following the passing of Agnivesh Agarwal, son of Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Limited.

Dempo’s took the lead in the 38th minute when Arnold Oliveira delivered a well-weighted corner from the right, which Mevan Dias met with a powerful header to put his side ahead. It was a deserved breakthrough after Dempo had gone close earlier through Murphy Fernandes, whose header from Swavel Furtado’s cross struck the crossbar.

Sesa FA drew level just before the break when Saish Gaunkar converted from the penalty spot. The spot-kick was awarded after Pradip Aheibam’s long ball was initially headed clear by Stenis Touthang, but the ball subsequently struck his hand inside the box.

The second half saw both sides create chances in search of a winner. Sesa threatened when Saish found Velito Rocha at the far post with a cross from the left, but a heavy first touch allowed Dempo goalkeeper Deep Singh to collect. Deep Singh was then called into action again, first fingertipping Abhinand’s header from a short free-kick.
