Jovel scores the other goal as Maina compelte a 3-0 victory
Benaulim: Maina Sports Club eased past United Club of Verna 3-0 in the 24th Benaulim Villagers Cup at St John the Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Thursday.
Frazer Fernandes opened the scoring as early as the 8th minute, setting the tone for a confident Maina display. Verna responded with more intensity after the break, but Maina goalkeeper Prakash Joshi was up to the task, pulling off a string of important saves.
Joywin Carneiro was a constant threat down the flanks, causing all sorts of problems for the Verna defence, while keeper Samuel Miranda kept the scoreline respectable with some sharp stops. Jovel Martins made it 2–0 for Maina in the 32nd minute, before Frazer rounded off the win with his second of the day in the final minutes.
