New Delhi: Goa will host the Indian Premier League auction for the 2027 season in mid-December, with the likely dates being December 15 and 16, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said on Wednesday.
“We have finalised Goa. The likely dates are December 15 to 16,” Dhumal told PTI.
The auction will be a one-day affair as it is a mini-auction, and will mark its return to India after the previous three editions were held overseas. The past three auctions were staged in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also confirmed that the auction would be held in Goa in December.
“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations – Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi last year – we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December,” Saikia said.
The 2027 auction will be the last mini-auction of the 2023-27 cycle. The IPL has not yet announced the retention deadline, which is usually towards the end of November.
The IPL had earlier announced a March 14-May 30 window for the 2027 season, while Saikia later said the season would begin towards the end of March. Official dates have not been announced.
There have already been several changes ahead of the next season. Rishabh Pant has returned to Delhi Capitals, while Kuldeep Yadav moved from the franchise to Lucknow Super Giants. Chennai Super Kings appointed former India pacer Zaheer Khan as head coach, while Kolkata Knight Riders will need a new captain after Ajinkya Rahane retired from international and Indian cricket. Mumbai Indians also brought in Zubin Bharucha as director of performance.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions after winning the 2025 and 2026 titles.
