They end their campaign with eight-wicket win over Gujarat
Porvorim: Goa wrapped up their Dr Capt K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament campaign with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Gujarat, chasing down 151 in just 24.5 overs at the Bala Gangadharanatha Swamy School Ground on Wednesday.
Having secured a substantial 137-run first-innings lead, Goa needed only a modest chase after Gujarat were dismissed for 287 in their second innings.
Gujarat showed greater resistance in their second essay, with Smit Patel leading the way with 71.
Jaymeet Patel added 63 and Sunpreet Bagga chipped in with 34 as Gujarat stretched the target to 151.
Goa’s bowlers had to work hard for their wickets, with Darshan Misal finishing as the pick of the attack with 4/69.
Yash Kasvankar claimed 3/67, while Lalit Yadav contributed two wickets for 58 runs.
The chase, however, was far more straightforward.
Goa lost an early wicket but soon took control through Suyash Prabhudessai and Abhinav Tejrana. The pair added 110 for the second wicket to effectively take the contest away from Gujarat.
Prabhudessai provided the aggression, striking six fours and four sixes in a brisk 61 off 48 balls.
Tejrana complemented him with a composed unbeaten 69 off 81 deliveries, finding the boundary nine times.
Prabhudessai’s dismissal did little to change the outcome, with
Tejrana remaining at the crease alongside Deepraj Gaonkar, unbeaten on nine, as Goa reached 153/2 in 24.5 overs.
The victory completed a commanding performance from Goa, who had earlier posted 386 in their first innings after Gujarat managed 249.
The 137-run advantage proved decisive, leaving Gujarat under pressure for much of the match before Goa finished the job with ease.
