India’s path at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026 has been set. The Final Draw, conducted in Bangkok on Monday, placed the Young Tigresses in a formidable Group C alongside Japan, Australia and Chinese Taipei as they return to the continental stage after a two-decade wait.
Japan headline the group as six-time champions and runners-up in 2024, carrying pedigree that also includes the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup title in 2018 and a second-place finish in 2024. Australia, third in the previous edition, add further weight to the bracket, while Chinese Taipei round out the group after exiting in the first round last time.
For India, the campaign opens against Japan before matchups with Australia and Chinese Taipei, presenting a demanding but valuable test for a squad eager to measure itself against Asia’s best.
Elsewhere, hosts Thailand were drawn into Group A with China PR, Vietnam and Bangladesh. Group B features defending FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup champions DPR Korea, along with Korea Republic, Uzbekistan and Jordan.
The 2026 edition will be staged across three venues — the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, and the Thammasat and Pathum Thani Stadiums in Pathum Thani — setting the stage for one of Asia’s premier youth tournaments.
Seedings for the draw followed a weighted points system based on team rankings from the past three editions: full value from 2024, half from 2019, and a quarter from 2017. With India absent from all three, they were assigned to Pot 4 ahead of the ceremony.
The format sends the top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed sides to the quarterfinals. The four semifinalists will earn berths at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026, where DPR Korea enter as defending champions.
