Leverkusen

Bayern Munich were held to a dramatic 1–1 draw by Bayer Leverkusen in a Bundesliga clash packed with red cards, VAR interventions and late controversy at the BayArena on Saturday.

Leverkusen struck early when Aleix GarcĂa opened the scoring in the fifth minute, weaving past two defenders before his deflected effort looped over goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

Bayern struggled to settle and briefly thought they had equalised through Jonathan Tah, but the effort was ruled out for handball in the build-up. Their task became tougher just before the break when Nicolas Jackson was shown a red card after a VAR review for a late challenge on Martin Terrier.

Despite being a man down, Bayern found a way back in the 69th minute. Luis DĂaz capitalised on a misplaced pass and calmly finished to level the scores.

The match grew increasingly heated in the closing stages as DĂaz was later sent off for a second yellow card, leaving Bayern with nine players.

Leverkusen appeared to have snatched a late winner through Jonas Hofmann, but the goal was ruled out for offside after another VAR check.

Both sides eventually settled for a point after a tense and chaotic encounter.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund strengthened their hold on second place with a 2–0 victory over Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park.
