She wins her second consecutive silver and overall third Asian Games medal
Naorem Roshibina Devi won her third Asian Games medal on the trot, claiming a silver after losing to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the women’s 60kg wushu final on Thursday.
The 25-year-old Indian went down 0-2, with all five judges awarding both rounds to Xiaoyu at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall.
The Chinese dominated from the outset with her aggressive approach and effective side-kicks, leaving Roshibina subdued for most of the bout.
Roshibina, who had won a bronze at the 2018 Asian Games and a silver in the last edition, said she could not give India the gold medal but vowed to learn from her mistakes and return stronger.
Roshibina was a late replacement after original choice Divyanshi Choudhary was withdrawn following an ACL injury. She had lost to Divyanshi in the June trials in Srinagar.
Roshibina’s medal provided the Indian wushu camp its only podium finish, with the other Sanda and Taolu competitors failing to win medals.
