Saras Powar emerged among the joint leaders in the Open category of the Goa State Selection U-15 Open & Girls FIDE Rating Chess Championship 2026 at Margao.

In the Open section, Saras Powar stayed unbeaten after defeating Aryan Naik, while Aaryavrat Rasiket Naik Desai secured a convincing win over Ethan Silveira to move to three points.

Top seed Joshua Mark Telles was forced to settle for a draw against Sai Prabhakaran. Rajveer Patil and Erwin Albuquerque also shared points, while Rhys Dominic Carvalho impressed by holding higher-rated Shubh Borkar.

At the end of Day 1, Saras Powar, Aaryavrat Desai, Rishit, Satyam Phal and Aarav Chopdekar were tied at the top of the standings with three points each.
