After a challenging start on the road, Sporting Clube de Goa return to familiar surroundings as they gear up for their first home fixture of the I-League 2 season against KLASA FC at Bambolim Stadium today. With just one point from two away matches, the Flaming Oranje will be eager to turn their fortunes around in front of their home fans.
Sporting Clubeâs campaign began with a narrow defeat before grinding out a hard-fought draw in their second outing. Despite the slow start, Armando Colacoâs men have shown promise in attack, finding the net in both games. Now, with home advantage, Sporting will look to capitalize and secure their first victory.
Colaco acknowledged the challenges of an away-heavy start but remains confident in his squadâs ability to bounce back.
âItâs never easy playing outside the state, but weâve scored in both matches and picked up a point,â Colaco said. âNow, weâre back home, and the boys are ready to give everything to secure all three points. We need our fans to be there and push us forward.â
Captain Dattaraj Gaonkar echoed his coachâs optimism, emphasizing the energy that playing at home brings to the team.âIt feels great to be back on home soil,â Gaonkar stated. âThe league has just begun, and weâre getting into our rhythm. Weâre ready for this challenge and want our fans to turn up in numbers to support us.â
Goalkeeper Abhimanyu Singh has been a standout performer so far, keeping SC Goa competitive, while Ivan Costa will be crucial in dictating play from midfield. Meanwhile, Doyal Alvesâ pace and creativity on the flanks could be key in breaking down KLASAâs defense. Match starts at 4 p.m.
