Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s 93-run blitz sinks LSG by seven wickets

Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals stayed in contention for a playoff berth with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL match in Jaipur on Tuesday, riding on another sensational knock from teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Chasing a daunting 221, the 15-year-old dazzled with a breathtaking 93 off just 38 balls, smashing 10 sixes and seven fours as Royals completed the chase with ease. Sooryavanshi missed out on his third IPL hundred by seven runs but ensured Royals moved to 14 points, keeping their qualification hopes alive ahead of their final league game against Mumbai Indians.

The left-hander, who is set to travel with the Indian senior team to Dublin next month, once again showcased extraordinary bat speed and fearless strokeplay. He now has 53 sixes this season and is closing in on Chris Gayle’s IPL record of 59 maximums in a season. He is also just 26 runs away from completing 600 runs this season.

Dhruv Jurel remained unbeaten on 53 off 38 balls to finish the chase.

Earlier, Mitchell Marsh’s explosive 96 off 57 balls powered LSG to 220 for five after Jos Inglis had laid the platform with a 29-ball 60 in a 109-run opening stand. Marsh struck 11 fours and five sixes, registering his third score above 90 this season.

However, Royals’ batters made light work of the target, with Mayank Yadav conceding 29 runs in one over during Sooryavanshi’s assault.
