Nestor, Beckham strike one each in Dempo SC’s 2-1 win over Clube De Salgaocar
Nagoa: Dempo SC edged out Clube De Salgaocar 2-1 win in the Goa Professional League Super League at Nagoa on Tuesday.
Dempo SC broke the deadlock midway through the first half after Laximanrao Rane was brought down just outside the box by CD Salgaocar’s Mevzen Oliveira.
Dempo’s Arnold Oliveira’s curling free-kick forced a save from CD Salgaocar’s Sanij Bugde, but the rebound fell kindly to Nestor Dias, who made no mistake tapping it from close range.
Fueled by the opener, Dempo doubled their lead minutes later. Arnold Oliveira picked out Beckham Dias with a clever cutback to the edge of the box, and the midfielder made no mistake—taking a sharp first touch before rifling a shot past the keeper to make it 2-0. CD Salgaocar pulled one back in the second half after sustained pressure. Isac Zomuanpuia lofted a teasing ball into the box for Royal Oliveira, whose clever chest control beat the advancing keeper.
Though Rahul Rodrigues cleared the initial danger off the line, Akeraj Martins reacted quickest to tap in the rebound. In the dying ,minute CD Salgaocar pushed hard for the equalizer but the Dempo defense held firm to seal a 2-1 win.
