Geno FC thwart Calangute

Geno FC held on for a hard-fought 2-1 win over Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapuca on Tuesday.

Umesh Pujar opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a clinical finish, Sankalp Kankonkar then  doubled the lead just before halftime in the 42nd minute, giving Geno FC a comfortable 2-0 lead  cushion.

Calangute Association staged a spirited fightback in the second half, with Shaviz Pathan pulling one back in the 65th minute. The visitors pressed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Geno’s defence, led by goalkeeper Akshat Hadkonkar, stood firm.

Pujar was named Man of the Match for his composed performance and decisive goal. Yellow cards interrupted the rhythm at intervals, with Geno FC seeing bookings for Sankalp Kankonkar (21’), Pratik Naik (50’) and Akshat Hadkonkar (88’), while Calangute Association received cautions for Sanford Fernandes (4’), Melvin Lobo (30’) and Joywin Carneiro (90+6’)
