Mapusa: Guardian Angel’s Sports Club edged past Goa Police 1-0 in the GPL Relegation League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Thursday.
At halftime the score remained 0-0. The breakthrough arrived three minutes after the restart through a well-worked attacking move. Cyril Dias delivered a precise ball into a crowded attacking third, picking out Suman Lepcha who had timed his run to perfection at the edge of the penalty area. Lepcha rose confidently and directed a crisp header goalward, placing it beyond the goalkeeper’s reach to hand Guardian Angel a vital lead.
Goa Police pressed for an equaliser but were reduced to ten men after Mayuresh Naik was shown a straight red card for retaliation. The dismissal followed a late sliding tackle from behind by Guardian Angel’s Khaidem Vicky in midfield, with Naik responding by striking him with his elbow.
Despite their efforts, Goa Police could not break through as Guardian Angel’s defence stood firm to seal the win.
