Riyan Parag’s 90 in vain as Rajasthan Royals suffer seven-wicket defeat
New Delhi: A fine exhibition of batting by KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka overshadowed Riyan Parag’s valiant 90 as Delhi Capitals pulled off a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring IPL match here on Friday.
Parag struck a 50-ball 90 to lift Royals to 225 for six after they were reduced to 12 for two early. He added 102 runs with Dhruv Jurel (42) to revive the innings, while Donovan Ferreira’s unbeaten 47 off 14 balls provided late impetus. Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers for DC with 3/40.
In reply, DC chased down 226 with contributions across the order, led by Rahul (75) and Nissanka (62), who stitched a 102-run opening stand in just 9.3 overs. Rahul grew in confidence after a cautious start, while Nissanka impressed with his strokeplay, particularly on the pull.
After Nissanka’s dismissal, Rahul and Nitish Rana (33) kept the momentum going before falling in quick succession, leaving DC with 49 needed off 26 balls. However, Ashutosh Sharma and Tristan Stubbs calmly completed the chase, sealing DC’s highest successful run chase in the IPL.
The victory lifted DC to sixth place with eight points, while RR remained fourth with 12.
