Change begins when we refuse to tolerate the wrong things, said Francis Coelho, a core member of the Enough is Enough movement, while announcing a public meeting at Chapel Hall, Sinquerim-Candolim on May 10 at 5 pm. Organisers said the meeting will focus on a 10-point agenda that includes issues related to corruption, development and environmental concerns in the state.

“This is not an individual meeting. It is a people’s movement, a people’s meeting which they should come and attend in large numbers,” said Devidas Amonkar from the North Goa core team.

Former chief justice of the Allahabad High Court Justice (retd) Ferdino Rebello will deliver the keynote address. Names of the other speakers are yet to be announced.

Speaking on Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act, activist Premanand Diukar said, “The law is equal for everybody. When the CM says that he’s reversing only a few places, it doesn’t work like that. Section 39A has to be repealed entirely.”

Diukar said the Chief Minister should take a uniform stand across the state.

“He cannot take the stand for only his own constituency. All 38 MLAs should come out and make a statement against Section 39A,” he said. The organisers said the movement is also pursuing legal remedies, including cases before the High Court related to a casino vessel, and said representations have been made to central authorities and the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting is open to all.
