TIATR REVIEW JP Pereira

Sammy Tavares’ new tiatr ‘Hi Avoi Kosli?’ recounts a tale of a mother, who doesn’t care to share her love equally, between her daughters.

A widowed mother has two daughters. Tasha is the older one and Twinkle is the younger. The mother loves the younger daughter while the older one is made to do housework and ill-treated, sometimes even physically beaten. Tasha longs for her mother’s love but the woman doesn’t care. Later, Shane, a migrant who is being chased by cops, enters the house and pleads for help. He claims he is innocent and is given shelter by the mother. The cop who is chasing the criminal is convinced by the mother, that no one has entered their house. and leaves. Twinkle recognises Shane as the candy man, when he comes out from hiding. In between there is police activity, involving a mix of good and corrupt cops. One day, Twinkle is waiting alone for Tasha, so as to go home with her. The candy man sees her and tries to give her chocolates, offering to reach her home. Tasha returns home and tells her mother that the little girl is kidnapped. A police case is registered and an investigation begins.

The script has an element of mystery in it.There is good acting, some good songs, humour and mimicry too, and a fine band to back the songs. Chari’s sets have light effects by Inas. Candida plays the mother, both loving and cruel. Joynixa is perfect as Tasha, displaying fine emotions throughout and a fine dress sense. The young Ozilia plays Twinkle, at times a brat, at other times quite vulnerable. Franky plays a double role, he is the candy man and a corrupt cop. Good acting and the first entry is executed very well. Agusto de Calangute is the good cop and Lawry Travasso is the head of the police. Jr. Reagan does a fine cameo. There is humour from Semica, Sally, Richard, David, Myron, and Raymond. At times, they play the amusing cops. Sally is great in the act with mimicry, involving politicians.

The band has Alloy, Jeslyn (trumpets), Eliora (bass), Norman (keyboard), and Roque (drums). The opening is rendered by Jr. Reagan, who returns for more songs. Other songs are by Joynixa, Candida, Agusto, Lawry, Saby de Divar, Sammy Tavares, David, Richard, Myron, etc.
