Panaji : The state government is planning to build an IT International Convention Centre in the electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC), Tuem, on the lines of the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi and Jio World Trade Centre, Mumbai. The project will come up over 23,988 square metres land within the EMC, and will be built under PPP mode with the government signing a long-term concession agreement with the developer for a period of 30 years.
The project is expected to take two years for construction and is envisaged as a landmark infrastructure that will strengthen the position of the state as a premier destination for business tourism, technology-driven events, conventions, exhibitions, etc, as well as investment promotion activities.
The government expects the IT convention centre to leverage the ecosystem created within the EMC.
The Department of IT, Electronics & Communication, which is undertaking the project and floated the request for proposal (RFP), said that despite Goa’s recognition as tourism brand, the state faces a major infrastructure gap in the ecosystem for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), specialised technology symposiums and industrial expos.
The project will include a conventional hall, modular exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, business lounges, hospitality facilities, digital conferencing facilities, parking infrastructure as well as green spaces.
The other amenities are hotels, co-working spaces, retail shops, and food courts.
The project is expected to complement the upcoming EMC, while creating a new economic anchor for North Goa. It will also catalyse tourism diversification, generate employment and create higher economic opportunities in hospitality, transport, retail and service sectors, says the RFP document.
The last date for submission of the bid is October 6.
The state’s EMC, which has not yet been commissioned, is now expected to be completed by March 2027. The EMC will generate jobs for 5,000 people. A total of 21 units have been allotted plots in the cluster.
The EMC is being set up at a total cost of Rs 80 crore, of which Rs 36.9 crore is from MeiTY, and the remaining funding from the state government.
