The 16th edition of The Bard by the Mandovi – The Shakespeare Festival Goa will be held on September 24, with school and higher secondary students from across Goa taking part in competitions based on Shakespeare’s works.

Organised by the Department of English, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Margao, the festival will have ‘Rebel Shakespeare’ as its theme. Participants will focus on Shakespearean characters and ideas that question authority, social norms, gender roles, family and identity. The events include Steal-A-Scene, Friends, Romans, Countrymen, The Shakespearean Soliloquy, Mozaic, Bedtime Shakespeare, Shakes and Ladders, The Mascot, Frames Per Shakespeare and Diorama Drama. Other events are Campus Shakespeare, Reel2Reel – Celebrating Shakespearean Legacy and Behind the Bard. The festival was started in 2010 by the Department of English to introduce school students to Shakespeare and literature through performances and other activities.
