Margao

Consumer rights activist and GOACAN member Lorna Fernandes urged politicians, including municipal councillors and sarpanches in South Goa, to stop affixing greeting hoardings and boards to electricity poles, saying that they obstruct visibility and increase the risk of accidents.

She raised the issue at a meeting of the South Goa District Road Safety Committee chaired by Deputy Collector Avelina DSa e Pereira.

She asked officials to at least communicate with the authorities responsible over the illegal activity.

The meeting also discussed the issue of truck parking on road shoulders in Ponda —particularly along bypass stretches — and in Aquem, Margao and Cuncolim, where drivers use the roadside to cook food.

“Although the DySP, traffic, assured us of forthcoming action, we have resolved to escalate the matter to the State Road Safety Committee,” Fernandes said.
