The Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of the Goa Police has filed a chargesheet before the District and Sessions Court, Merces, against Shivaji Jadhav, then chairman of Pune-based Hariom Multistate Co-operative Credit Society, and 11 others, including the society, in connection with an alleged Rs 1.69-crore investor cheating case. The matter is scheduled for hearing on July 31.

The others named in the chargesheet are Santosh Sutar, Gulab Jadhav, Nikhil Nangude, Ajay Jadhav, Santosh Satkar, Lata Shelar, Manisha Ambekar, Yashwant Ubale, Vithoba Mayekar and Pedro alias Peter Gomes.

According to police officials, the investigation revealed that between 2016 and November 2022, investors were allegedly induced to invest in recurring and fixed deposits on the promise of high returns. It was also revealed that the society allegedly operated an office in Goa without obtaining the requisite permissions, police said. Upon maturity, the deposited amounts were allegedly not repaid, resulting in a wrongful loss of approximately Rs 1.69 crore.

In August last year, the EOC had registered an FIR against the Pune-based cooperative credit society and its office-bearers for allegedly cheating investors to the tune of Rs 1.69 crore. A complaint was lodged by one of the investors, police said.

According to police, the offence was registered for allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy and inducing the complainant and other investors to invest in recurring and fixed deposits by promising high interest rates.

and thereafter failing to repay the matured amounts, thereby cheating investors/depositors to the tune of Rs 1.69 crore.
