Homoeopathy role crucial, says chief of IHMA
Panaji: Stating that homoeopathy can be integrated into the treatment of cancer, Dr E S J Prabhu Kiran, president of Indian Homoeopathic Medical Association (IHMA), on Sunday said that there are many lifestyle disorders where allopathy or conventional treatment may not be very successful, but homoeopathy can play a definite role.
Dr Kiran, who is also the principal of Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, Deralakatte, Mangalore, said that Goa should adopt the Kerala model, wherein every panchayat has a homoeopathy doctor along with allopathy and Ayurveda.
“There are more than 1,200 homoeopathic dispensaries in Kerala,” said Dr Kiran during the National Conclave of Science and Scientific Seminar: Futuro De Cancer at Kala Academy, Panaji.
The Indian Homoeopathic Medical Association was started in 2004 by a dynamic set of doctors with the intention of selflessly promoting homoeopathy, said Dr Kiran, adding that today IHMA has a presence in 15 states with more than 100 local chapters.
“I am also the principal of the Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, which is associated with a medical college, so we have the privilege of early detection, conventional treatment and also homoeopathic intervention,” said Dr Kiran.
He further said that “the homoeopathic hospital in our college has palliative care, which appreciably prolongs the lifespan of cancer patients in terminal stages, and we also undertake prophylactic treatment… preventive measures as well.”
Urging authorities to have a medical set-up for homoeopathy in Goa that can be integrated into cancer treatment, he said, “In Kerala, every panchayat has a homoeopathy doctor, an allopathy doctor and also Ayurveda. There are more than 1,200 homoeopathic dispensaries in the state of Kerala.” “Along with Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal in the country, the homoeopathy model provides qualified homoeopathy doctors for the benefit of healthcare of society at a very reasonable nominal rate,” Dr Kiran said.
Also present on the occasion were Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Kala Academy chairman Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, Deputy Director (AYUSH) and nodal officer for National AYUSH Mission (NAM) in Goa Dr Minal Joshi and others.
Dr Kiran said, “We have many lifestyle disorders where allopathy or conventional treatment may not be very successful, and homoeopathy will play a definite role. I appeal to the Governor and Dr Minal to look into the prospects of having more dispensaries in Goa. In South Goa, we have Shri Kamakshi Devi Homoeopathic Medical College. It is the will and wish and desire of Goan doctors that we should have a Government Homoeopathic Medical College in North Goa.”
