Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjay Goel on Wednesday said that the final Special Intensive Revision (SIR) rolls will be published on February 7, adding that the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) election schedule notification is yet to be issued.

“The SIR roll will be finalised on February 7. Now, the decision rests with the government,” Goel said, speaking after an all-party meeting. He added that his office had initially requested the government to postpone the ZP elections until the completion of the SIR exercise.

The CEO also said that if the government decides to proceed with the elections, separate Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) should be appointed for the ZP polls and for the SIR process. Representatives from all political parties attended the review meeting.

Goa Forward Party’s Durgadas Kamat alleged that some Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were close to the ruling party and not performing their duties properly. The CEO assured strict action, while Goa Forward vowed to closely monitor the SIR process.
