The North Goa District Committee of Senior Citizens has remained non-functional for nearly 17 months after its two-year tenure ended on March 30, 2025, with the committee yet to be reconstituted, GOACAN coordinator Ronald Martins said.

The committee is responsible for addressing grievances of senior citizens from Tiswadi, Bardez, Pernem, Bicholim and Sattari.

In a letter to North Goa Collector Ankit Yadav, GOACAN said the committee is required to be notified to advise on the proper
implementation of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, at the district level.

The committee is also expected to perform other functions concerning senior citizens as directed by the government.

It is chaired ex officio
by the District Collector
and was first notified on March 30, 2023, for a two-year tenure.

The committee includes the Superintendent of Police (North Goa), Director of Health Services, medical superintendent (Administration) of Goa Medical College and Hospital,
managing director of KTCL, director of Provedoria and Director of Transport, among others. The district welfare officer (North) of the Directorate of Social Welfare serves as its member secretary.
