Panaji: Tourist police posted along the state’s beaches have acted against over 1,000 violations in the past three months, including drinking, driving and dumping garbage, and handed over the suspected persons to the local police stations for necessary  action.

Superintendent of Police (Tourist police) Akshat Kaushal said, “545 cases are related to garbage dumping, 265 are cases related to Cigarette and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 193 pertain to drinking on beaches, while 14 cases have been registered for driving on beach.”

Stating that the local police stations are separately taking action against these violations, Kaushal said stringent action is also being taken against touts.

“We are working closely with shack owners. I conduct meetings with the shack operators on a quarterly basis. Besides, the local police staff also visits the shacks regularly,” Kaushal said.

Goa police had recently said that in line with the vision of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to promote a safe, clean and orderly environment for both, residents and visitors, police have taken firm action against public nuisance caused by unauthorised hawkers, beggars and touts.
