The 13th district-level committee meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held under the chairmanship of South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus, during which a detailed review of narcotics-related incidents in the district was undertaken.

The Collector directed all officials concerned to adopt proactive and preventive strategies to tackle drug-related cases. “We conducted a comprehensive review of the narcotics-related cases within the South Goa district. The police and all relevant officials are directed to adopt preventive strategies to curb such occurrences,” Cleetus said.

The NCORD mechanism, established by the central government in 2016, facilitates coordination among central and state drug enforcement agencies, as well as other key stakeholders.

Officials from the Departments of Health, Education, Social Welfare, and Excise participated in the meeting, with discussions centred around rehabilitation initiatives for individuals affected by substance abuse.

The meeting assumed greater significance in light of the recent drug-related death of a 19-year-old student at an educational institution in South Goa. Prior to the NCORD session, the Collector also held a separate review meeting on the overall law and order situation in the district. It was attended by officials from the police, traffic police, deputy collectors, sub-divisional magistrates, mamlatdars, and other stakeholders.
