Valpoi: Following the discovery of worms in tap water at a residence in Valpoi, Water Supply Department officials said that checks and testing were carried out over the past two days and added that the overall water being supplied in the Valpoi town has been found to be safe for drinking.
The issue came to light on Tuesday. Department officials conducted tests on water samples from the affected house as well as nearby households. “Preliminary findings showed adequate chlorine levels in all samples, indicating that the water is safe for consumption,” officials said.
As a precautionary measure, additional water samples from the affected residence and a nearby house were sent to Dabose for detailed laboratory analysis. Authorities also carried out flushing of the entire pipeline in the area.
On Wednesday, further samples were collected and sent to Panaji for testing.
To prevent any potential contamination, the affected locality has been temporarily isolated from the main water supply network and residents in the area have been provided with tanker water supply since Tuesday.
“Valpoi is served by three separate pipelines connected to the main tank, and the issue is localised and does not affect the wider distribution network,” said officials. It may be recalled that the Water Supply Department had temporarily suspended water supply in parts of Mhaus, Valpoi-Sattari after long white worms were found in tap water at a residence. The incident led to investigation and measures, including flushing of pipelines and collection of water samples for laboratory testing.
While initial reports have indicated negative results, additional samples have been collected from the affected area for further examination.
Authorities said that monitoring of the situation is continuing, and urged the residents not to panic.
