He goes down 3-2 to Scottish No 1 John Meehan in quaterfinals
Panaji: Indian squash player Yash Fadte bowed out of the PSA Aramis Club Open at the quarterfinal stage after pushing Scottish No. 1 John Meehan to a gruelling five-game battle here.
Fadte, who had fought back from two games down to beat Egyptian Omar Elkattan 7-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 in the pre-quarterfinals, went down to Meehan 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 9-11, 9-11 in an 80-minute contest.
The Indian stayed competitive throughout the quarterfinal before Meehan edged the deciding game to advance.
“It was a good tournament and I’m happy with the way I competed. Coming back from two games down against Omar was a big positive. The quarterfinal was another very tough battle and I fought until the end,” Fadte said.
He will next compete in a PSA 15K tournament in Brest, France, next week.
Fadte said competing away from home during the festive season was difficult but remained part of his journey as he works towards his goal of qualifying for the Olympics.
