Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said women need to prioritise their health and access a strong healthcare system, noting that their well-being is crucial to family welfare.
Addressing a gathering in Sankhali, Sawant said the government launched a free medical check-up initiative for women above 40 years, titled ‘Check by Dotor’, across government hospitals and health centres from March 8, International Women’s Day, to March 31.
He said women, especially in rural areas, often neglect their health, leading to worsening of serious illnesses due to lack of regular check-ups. He said the initiative has received a strong response, with over 40,000 women across
Goa undergoing screenings, including 935 beneficiaries in Sankhali. He also appreciated the efforts of doctors, nurses and healthcare staff in implementing the programme.
The initiative offers screenings for hypertension, diabetes, breast
cancer, oral cancer, reproductive tract infections and anaemia, along with
Pap smear tests, sputum testing, AYUSH OPD services and family planning counselling. Services also include pregnancy and postnatal care, counselling and HPV vaccination for young girls to prevent cervical cancer.
Sawant said the objective is to promote preventive healthcare and encourage women to prioritise their well-being. He urged families to support women in undergoing regular check-ups and advised women above 40 years to get screened at least once a year.
He said private hospitals have also joined the initiative by offering services at affordable rates.
The chief minister also stressed the need for public awareness to achieve a TB-free India and urged citizens to seek timely medical attention for persistent symptoms, adding that healthcare teams are actively working to strengthen early detection and treatment.
