Panaji: WCM Gunjal Chopdekar of Tiswadi emerged champion in the Goa State Women’s Chess Championship/Selection, finishing with a perfect six points from six rounds at the Mahalaxmi Hindu Prasadik Vachan Mandir, Mala.
Vaishnavi Parab of Pedne finished second, while Terse Asmi Amit of Salcete secured third after all three players below the champion ended on five points. WCM Swera Ana Braganca of Tiswadi finished fourth on tie-break.
The top four players qualified to represent Goa at the forthcoming National Championship.
The championship was organised by the Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association. The prize distribution was graced by the presence of Chaitanya Tarcar, Mahesh Candolkar, Dattaram Pinge, and other dignitaries.
