Goa’s Samairah Bhandare delivered an impressive unbeaten run to power Somaiya Vidyavihar University to the women’s team title at the All India University (AIU) Squash Championship held at Mumbai.
Playing in her first AIU tournament, Samairah emerged as one of the standout performers of the competition, winning all her matches and playing a key role in Somaiya University’s successful campaign.
Her most significant contribution came in the semi-final against Delhi University where she overcame Delhi’s top player Ritwika Singh Bundela 3-1 in a hard-fought encounter, giving Somaiya University a crucial advantage in the tie.
Earlier in the semi-final, Mona Chauhan had provided Somaiya University the opening point with a 3-0 win over Himani, while Nirupama Dubey, a recognised PSA player, sealed the team’s place in the final with a commanding 3-0 victory against Perina Sharma.
Somaiya University maintained their dominance in the final against Punjab University. Mona Chauhan defeated Neha 3-0 before Samairah continued her excellent form with another emphatic 3-0 win over Anjali. Dubey then wrapped up the tie with a convincing 3-0 victory against Bhumika to confirm the championship title.
